Outdoor Program
They say 75% of Scouting is "outing", and we like to have an Outdoor program the Scouts can enjoy! We enjoy holding our meetings and adventures outdoors at Lawbaugh or Scout Park, going on a square foot hike, or even a 1-2 mile hiking adventure! We can't forget about our Fall and Spring campouts with the Pack and Troop, fishing, or going to Camp Akela for Summer Camp.

Pinewood Derby. Start your engines Scouters! Get ready for a fun filled Pinewood Derby race where the Scouts have designed their own custom pinewood derby racer and go up against the rest of the Pack for a chance to win a trophy!
WCV Pack 167 Fishing Derby. Does your Scout think they are a fish whisperer? Do they think they can catch the most fish? How about the biggest or even the smallest? They can join the fishing derby and cast their line in for a chance to win a prize and have fun!

Outdoor adventures are the key to Scouting, and Summer Camps are one of the great ways to have an adventure!
Every summer, Pack 167 attends a four day, three night Residential Summer Camp at Camp Akela, located up by Boone. While there, Scouts spend their time learning valuable skills, swimming, shooting sports, peddle car racing, hiking, fishing and having FUN!
Summer Camp is a great way for them to learn new skills, become better leaders, strengthen the bonds of the Scouts, make great new friendships that can last a lifetime, and even find opportunities to give back by joining the camp staff in future years!
Mid-Iowa Council hosts numerous events throughout the year including:
Cub Scout Day Camps allow the Scouts to practice their sharpshooting skills under guidance of Trained Range Masters at Camp Akela or the Mid-Iowa Council!
Science Center Overnight is a fun filled private event at the Des Moines Science Center. Scouts get the explore and have fun and even stay overnight!
Special event nights at the Iowa Wild and Iowa Cubs!
Twilight Camp is a Pack favorite. This camp is a week long evening camp in the summer. Scout leaders and parent volunteers provide transportation to and from camp every day. The evenings are filled with fun skill learning activities such as shooting sports, peddle cars, water rockets, arts/crafts, fishing, skits, and games.
